The Black Keys "Brothers"

I have a bad habit of convincing myself that I will not like a band that people recommend to me, before even listening to them. I think its a subconscious hipster showing. Often though I end up really liking the group. The Black Keys is a recent example of this.

The Black Keys formed in 2001 in Akron, Ohio. Dan Auerbach (Lead Vocals and Guitar) and Patrick Carney (Drums) make up The Black Keys. They have released 6 studio albums, 2 EPs, 14 singles and 1 live album in their 10 years together. Their most recent album “Brothers” has been the most successful.“Brothers” was release in May 2010. The album has a total of 15 tracks. “Tighten Up” is the single and most easily recognized. Approximately 73,000 copies were sold in the first week it was released. In 2011 The Black Keys and their album “Brothers” was nominated for 5 Grammys. They were awarded 3.

Best Rock Performance by a Duo of Group with Vocal for "Tighten Up"

Best Alternative Music Album for Brothers,

Best Recording Package for Brothers

Auerbach's vocals have the raspy raw sound I really enjoy. They remind me of earlier days of rock. On their Facebook they put themselves in the genre Rock and Roll. They played at Bonnaroo in 2010 and again this year. (Which I sadly was not able to attend. Next year though). They seem like really quirky and awesome guys. On their website they gave away the mustaches they wore in the music video for “Howlin For You” and their album cover speaks for itself. I think they may make the list of groups to see before I die. Overall this album is worth listening to. I'm glad I finally gave them a listen.

The album is for sale on iTunes for $7.99

You can receive a free download of “Ohio” by registering on their website.
